2040 POPULATION TARGET HIT 20 YEARS EARLY

We are part of a growing group Edina residents concerned about the city's aggressive urban planning regularly meeting with neighbor resistance. The city has spent $1M in the feasibility stage for Grandview Green despite 71% of our surveyed Edina residents not being in support of the project.

Edina's most important asset - Edina Public Schools - is at stake. The city has not properly studied the effects of significant population growth on our public school infrastructure, despite being on track to grow past our 2040 Met Council population projection by 2020.

Update: Due to rapid population growth in Edina, the Met Council has now increased Edina’s 2040 population projection by 4,500.

The above chart is the current student enrollment projection without factoring in the increase in housing stock our city has already approved.

  • 585 new housing units at Pentagon Park - approved in June

  • 110 new housing units are being constructed at 50th and France.

  • 165 housing units are being completed on the former school bus garage site.

  • 655 additional housing units are planned for parcels around Southdale Center.

  • Several recently completed apartment developments and a couple of smaller housing developments are in process. It also does not include redevelopment potential in the Cahill and 70th area or an upcoming project at 44th and France.

Using the Schools’ 0.12 student yield factor for apartment units adds another 182 K-5 students for the above bulleted projects to the district. Add the Grandview Green kids, and current construction commitments, we’re overcapacity by 413 students, almost an entire elementary school.
